“This was the perfect space to create exactly what I envisioned for my wedding. The surrounding rough hewn textures were such a beautiful contrast to the sparkling, crisp decor–and the food and flowers were like original works of art. So delightful and unique!”
On this site in 1869, Captain Charles A. Schreiner opened a modest country store made of cypress planks. The store underwent a major renovation in 1919 but the original maple floors and cypress beams are still visible. Today the Schreiner Building consists of several structures erected over the years, including the Art Deco-style addition on Earl Garrett Street built in the 1930s and the single story Water Street addition in the 1940s. The building was given a mid-century modern look in 1963. In 2012, The Cailloux Foundation won a prestigious San Antonio Conservation Society Award for restoring the historic building back to its 1919 appearance.
